What Is Crystallized Intelligence?
Crystallized intelligence is the knowledge and verbal skill you have already learned. IQ tests sample it with vocabulary, general information, and questions that reward what you picked up at school, work, and in reading. It is stored skill, not a brand-new puzzle.
What Is Crystallized Intelligence?
Crystallized intelligence is the usable store of words, facts, and practiced procedures. It grows when you read, work, and talk. A test does not pour it in. It only asks whether you can bring it out.
How It Shows Up on a Test
Vocabulary items, similarities, and information questions lean on this store. Someone with a rich reading life often looks stronger here than on a pure matrix, even when their novel-problem skill is similar.
What a Single Score Misses
A high crystallized score is not proof of a high fluid score, and a thin one is not proof of low ability. Language, schooling, and culture change what the items can see. Online word quizzes add even more of that bias.
How to Read Your Own Result
Read the crystallized piece beside the fluid piece, not instead of it. If words were the hard part, the number says more about language access than about new-problem skill. Build the store by reading, then retest with the same item mix.
